4 Main Skin Types
While people can experience different skin types throughout the various seasons of the year, it's important to be able to identify your skin type so that you can adequately care for it.
There are 4 basic skin care types in addition to those who suffer from sensitive skin. Note that the 4 basic skin types below can also experience sensitivity.
Normal Skin - Smooth in texture with only an occasional break out. Pores are slightly noticed and aren't clogged. A daily skin care regimen should consist of cleansing with a gentle foaming facial wash, followed by a facial toner and moisturizer for all skin types.
Dry Skin - Itchy and uncomfortable and can become cracked and damaged. This skin type doesn't produce enough oil and must be moisturized/hydrated regularly. A daily skin care regimen should consist of cleansing with a creamy cleanser, followed by toner and a moisturizing cream or lotion.
Oily Skin - overproduces oils and is very greasy, shiny, has clogged pores and often has break outs; requires a moisturizer that is light and water based. A daily skin care regimen should consist of a gentle facial wash that will remove dirt and oils without removing necessary moisture.
Combination Skin - A combination of normal to dry skin on the mouth, cheek and eye areas with a few dry and a oily patches known as the T-Zone area. A daily skin care regimen should consist of a foaming facial wash in the morning and a creamy facial cleanser in the evening. Using these two types of cleansers at the different times of day helps to maintain the moisture and oil balance. In addition to cleansing, a light moisturizer should be used, concentrating on the dry areas.
