Aromatherapy - A Brief Explanation

In order to explain the benefits of getting a holistic aromatherapy massage, it's important to break down what aromatherapy is all about.

When the body is out of balance, it can better achieve harmony with the use of plants, flowers, and herbs. Aromatherapy combines various extracts from plants, herbs and flowers and applies them to the body in the form of a therapeutic oil.

When you inhale the scents that are released from therapeutic essential oils, you are giving yourself a holistic treatment. You are treating your body and your emotions in order to ease uncomfortable symptoms.

Holistic Aromatherapy Massage - Benefits

Using Aromatherapy during a massage is helps to ease symptoms caused by conditions such as muscle aches, headaches, digestive problems and congested sinuses

Aromatherapy and Massage combine the healing touch of massage with the healing powers of the extracts from natural plants and herbs. When the extracts from the plants and herbs are massaged into the skin, there is a positive effect on the body such as stress relief and muscle relaxation.

Every woman and man can benefit from combining aromatherapy and massage. This is of course assuming that you don’t have any pre-existing conditions (see precautions below)

What To Expect With Professional Aromatherapy and Massage

Visiting an aromatherapist is beneficial when you are first learning how to do a massage that's combined with aroma therapy. An aromatherapist goes through a process of completing an overview of your health history. This is done to determine what essential oils are best to use for your massage. Before Your Massage let the aromatherapist know if you have any allergies to medications or other items.

Based on your condition and health review, a carrier oil like almond oil is then blended with the appropriate extracts from plants. Aromatherapy then begins to take over and you will quickly begin to relax and prepare for your massage.

Precautions

  • If you have any allergies to medicine, plants or food, let the massage therapist know before undergoing treatment.
  • If you are pregnant, consult a doctor before engaging in aromatherapy massage.
  • If you have a blood clotting issue, you should not participate in any type of massage because the pressure from the massage could cause a forming clot to dislodge.  This could lead to complications and even death.
